Obituary

Patricia J. Olthaus (nee Crowe), beloved wife for 59 years of the late Albert A. ‘Cuz’ Olthaus.  Devoted mother of Kevin M. (Terri), James P. (Judy) and Keith L. (Jennifer) Olthaus, all of Cincinnati and Kerry M. (Peter) Cassinelli of Sharonville, Ohio.  Loving grandmother of Kevin Jr., Ryan, Nicholas, Matthew and Isabella Olthaus and Andrea Dirr and her great-grandchildren Michael, Kyla, Wyatt, Olivia, Paige, Autumn, Pete, Lucy, Braylyn and Avery.  Also survived by her beloved cousin Debbie (Bruce) Baroni of Aliquippa, PA.  Also preceded in death by her parents, James and Rose Crowe.

Patricia was a 1951 graduate of Seton High and was a homemaker.  She passed away at her residence after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 16, 2023; she was 89 years old.

Patricia was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, "surrogate" mother  to many of her children’s closest friends and a dedicated "dog mom" to her canine companion, "the beaner," her tiny chihuahua, Lola. She was known by many names to those who loved her: "Mom," "Liz," Pat, "Patty,"Mrs. Olthaus," "Mrs. O.," "MeeMaw," "G-Maw," and "Grandmamama."

She contributed to society and enriched the lives of many through her various occupations and dedicated volunteerism over the years. She volunteered as a gym teacher, Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout troop leader and PTO mom at St. William School. At times, she served as an assistant knothole baseball coach with "Big Al." She was also a ceramic teacher for the residents at Little Sisters of the Poor for many years. She served in the "Zooster" organization and as a tour guide at the Cincinnati Zoo. She was also a dedicated tutor and classroom assistant at both St. William School and Mt. Washington School.

Her job history included being an administrative assistant to several physicians on the west side of Cincinnati, a ceramic instructor at Colonial Clay Hut and most recently a secretary in the Education Department at the Cincinnati Zoo. Her service to the zoo as volunteer and employee spanned 21 years total, from 1976-1997.

Patricia lived a full life and had a very adventurous spirit. She was a voracious reader, a cooking enthusiast, animal lover, seamstress, "crafter extraordinaire," homework assistant" and typist to many, a restaurant aficionado in her own right, a fervent traveler and a classic movie buff.

Her greatest accomplishment was being the matriarch of her family. Her legacy will live on for generations to come through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the many, many lives she touched throughout her life.
