Zachary H. Grawe, beloved son of Ric Grawe and the late Sharon ‘Dewey’ (nee Monk) Grawe. Dear brother of Bryan (Cait) Grawe of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky and Mary Grawe of Chicago, Illinois. Zac was loved by many aunts and uncles: the late Dave (Janet) Grawe, Den Grawe, Sharon (Jim) Jansen, Doug Grawe, Linda Drapp, the late Bobby Monk, Jim (Dee) Monk, Pam Monk, Brian (Maureen) Monk, and Dan (Reggie) Monk, so many cousins (none of whom could beat him at euchre) and countless friends.
Zachary passed away unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, Kentucky on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at just 35 years old.
From a very young age, Zac had the uncanny ability to smile and joke his way out of a pickle. Despite regularly getting into trouble, he never seemed to actually *be* in trouble. This may be because he was his mother’s favorite child. Her passwords often involved Zac’s name and the number 31. Which we all understood meant three kids, one favorite. We take comfort in knowing that they are together again.
Zac was known for his signature sense of style: a Red’s hat so worn it wasn’t red anymore, an unruly beard and hair, and a pair of all-weather shorts. Appearances weren’t very important to him. He was much more concerned about who a person was on the inside. His main ambition in life was to “make a difference” and it was frustrating to him that he couldn’t do that on as large a scale as he wanted. What he didn’t fully appreciate is the difference he made every day in the lives of the people who had the pleasure to know him. His calm demeanor helped to diffuse hard moments, he could disarm you with a joke and his laugh was contagious. Zac shared his joy and love without reservation. If you needed something, and Zac had it, you wouldn’t need it anymore. He had the biggest heart.
He loved Cincinnati sports and seeing the Reds in a new stadium was one of the only things that would overcome his dislike of travelling. He was a diehard Reds and Bengals fan and entered each season with the optimism and hope required of a Cincinnati sports fan.
Zac graduated from Elder High School in 2008, where he played football. He worked as a Process Assistant for Amazon where he cultivated an amazing network of friends. He gave freely of himself to others, and to remember him, we encourage everyone to share your love generously, to laugh loudly, and to take care of yourself.
