Robert was born in Cincinnati. He was drafted into the US Army at the onset of WWII at the age of 20. He fought with the 34th Minnesota Guard Infantry in Algiers, North Africa and Italy. His unit fought alongside Patton’s Armored Division the entire war. He was discharged with honors at the termination of WWII in 1945.
